Carnival is a time for looking forward to spring and driving away winter, which became established in our country during the Middle Ages. The length of the festive season varies from year to year, as its closing date is linked to the date of Easter (it runs from Epiphany to Ash Wednesday). During this period, fancy dress balls and parades are organised, and people enjoy the festival’s most characteristic sweet treat, the carnival doughnut. By this time, around February, we’re all longing for a bit of sunshine and good weather. If you’d like to join us in bidding farewell to winter and burning the ‘dedebáb’ – a folk custom from Somogy – then Katica Tanya is the place for you!
