World Water Day! – We’re dedicating our next weekend to this.

After the gloomy days, weeks and even months of recent times, it’s (perhaps) wonderful news for us that spring officially arrives on 20 March. Love is in the air, and the flowers are blooming. We can provide the perfect venue for both occasions.

And as the buds on the trees slowly burst open, nourished by fresh water, we have the opportunity to reflect on water, the source of life for all living things.

22 March: World Water Day! – We’re dedicating our next weekend to this!

If you prefer drawing, you could even conjure up a little fish on a piece of paper. Your creation won’t be beautiful because it’s perfect, but because you made it yourself.

But what is this month of March, the month of Lent, really like?
Although the name may seem enigmatic, it simply refers to the fact that March is one of the months of Lent. Lent does indeed usually fall in March. This is particularly true this year, as the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday, fell in mid-February. Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts until Easter Sunday, is observed by the Christian church in remembrance of Jesus’s suffering.

And if you’d like to enjoy a delicious lunch with us this weekend, here’s what’s on offer our culinary offerings:

Tomato soup — Chicken stuffed with dried fruit — Kinder Bueno in a glass

24 February is Mátyás the Icebreaker Day. We, too, are looking forward to this special day with great excitement! 24–25 February- At Katica Farm, we’ll be weaving nets, „making” pike and catching them, but we’ll also be playing an icebreaker game!

What is this Special Day all about?

24 February is the feast day of Saint Matthias the Apostle. The name means ‘God’s gift’. Matthew, who came from Bethlehem, was a learned man and one of the Lord’s disciples. 24 February is also known as ‘Matthew the Ice-Breaker’s Day’. There are several folk beliefs associated with this day. Who hasn’t heard the saying: ‘If Matthias finds ice, he breaks it; if not, he makes some.’ In other words, if it’s freezing on this day, a thaw will follow; if the weather is fine, we can certainly expect further cold spells.
Furthermore, according to folk tradition, on this day the apostle also hands out whistles to the birds so that they may sing once more; from this point on, we can look forward to spring with confidence.

Environmental protection is a key priority for Katica Tanya. We strive to highlight this as often as possible and to convey its importance to our guests.

An important aspect of environmental awareness is reusing waste. In our workshops, we show how to turn something of no value into a useful object or a toy. That’s how a PET bottle becomes a aeroplane, a bottle cap a spinning top, a paper roll a tree, and an egg carton a caterpillar. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? If you come and visit us, we’ve got more in store for you than just these interesting craft sessions.

Spring is a great time to spend a couple of hours exploring all the corners of the farm where with our animals You’ll have the chance to meet them. This will help you get to know nature better, develop a love for animals, and see what responsible farming is all about.

Here is the programme for the third weekend in January at Katica Farm, inspired by the cold weather. On 20–21 January, the Wool – this wonderfully warm material takes centre stage. This weekend, we’re using wool to ward off the onslaught of the cold winter. They could make a woolly lamb or a felt ball, and they could also learn about the journey of wool: How is sheep’s wool turned into felt that people can use?

In Hungarian, the term ‘wool’ generally refers to the coat of hair covering a sheep’s body and forming a continuous fleece. Less commonly, the fur of certain other animals (such as Angora goats and cashmere goats) is also referred to as ‘wool’, but in such cases the name of the animal is always placed before the word ‘wool’ (Angora wool, cashmere wool). Wool is of particular importance in clothing and home textiles (blankets, carpets, upholstery fabrics), which is mainly due to its excellent heat retention, softness, elasticity and pleasant feel.

Come rain or shine, you’ll always find something to do here. The climbing walls and logic puzzles in our Adventure Cave will put your courage and skills to the test, whilst our trampolines not only let you show off your agility but also give you a bit of a feeling as if you were flying amongst the birds in the open air. Whether you fancy a game of table football or air hockey, or perhaps a mini-bowling match, you’ll find it all here.

Our gastronomic offer: Szekler Cabbage – Butter scones
