Work on the chair began on 13 December; according to some traditions, it was a three-legged piece of furniture, whilst others describe it as having four legs; seven types of wood were used for the former and nine for the latter, and the chair was made up of that exact number of pieces. It had to be completed within thirteen days so that the witches could be found standing on it in the church during the Christmas Mass. Nowadays, nobody wants to smuggle a Luca chair, but the story still captures people’s imagination. Among the St Luke’s Day customs, at Katica Farm today you can learn about sowing wheat and take part in making a Luca clay figurine, if you pop round to see us at the weekend.
