Is there anyone who hasn’t heard of the customs associated with St Luke’s Day? If nothing else, St Luke’s chair is surely familiar to everyone: Work on the chair began on 13 December; according to some traditions it had three legs, whilst others say it had four; seven types of wood were used for the former and nine for the latter, and the chair was made up of that many pieces. It had to be completed within thirteen days so that, during the Christmas Mass, the witches could be found standing on it in the church. Nowadays, nobody wants to smuggle in a Luca chair, but the story still captures people’s imagination.

My visit last week was truly moving. Not only the children, but also the parents and all of you who work there were so kind to me. Given that I’ve already completed a significant part of my work for this year, I’ve decided to visit you again this weekend, on 10 December, so that anyone who happened to miss out on meeting me can make up for it. I always receive so much love and kindness when I travel the world on my reindeer sleigh, but what I felt with you really touched me. Anyone who’d like to meet me is welcome to join me on Saturday afternoon at Katicatanya.

I don’t think there’s any need to add anything to that. Just like Father Christmas, we’re waiting for you with lots of love. Knowing Father Christmas as we do, the children won’t be leaving empty-handed, and you might even have a photo taken together, which will be a lovely keepsake for the future.
