Here’s the programme for the third weekend in January at Katica Farm, inspired by the cold weather. 20–21 January a Wool – this wonderfully warm material takes centre stage. This weekend, we’re using wool to ward off the onslaught of the cold winter. They could make a woolly lamb or a felt ball, and they could also learn about the journey of wool: How is sheep’s wool turned into felt that people can use?

In Hungarian, the term ‘wool’ generally refers to the coat of hair covering a sheep’s body and forming a continuous fleece. Less commonly, the fur of certain other animals (such as Angora goats and cashmere goats) is also referred to as ‘wool’, but in such cases the name of the animal is always placed before the word ‘wool’ (Angora wool, cashmere wool). Wool is of particular importance in clothing and home textiles (blankets, carpets, upholstery fabrics), which is mainly due to its excellent heat retention, softness, elasticity and pleasant feel.
